What is a credit union?

A Credit Union is a financial co-operative owned and controlled by its’ members. Each Credit Union is operated for and by its members, the people who save and borrow with it.

The member is an owner.

Each member of the credit union is an equal owner. Policy decisions are made in consultation with members at the Annual General Meeting.

Dividends and loan interest rates are set with the members interests at heart.

Your credit union, with your involvement will always put the member first.

Member Input

Our members elect our Board of Directors on a one member one vote basis

at AGM. Members aged 16 years and over are eligible to present for election. The work done by the Board and the Supervisory Committee is voluntary – they are not paid to look after the credit union.

Our 11 Directors serve for 3 years at a time. The Board of Directors holds overall responsibility for the general control, direction and management of the affairs, funds and records of the credit union.

The Supervisory Committee, consisting of three volunteer members, elected for three years, is a statutory committee whose function is to oversee the performance by the directors of their functions. Part of it’s functions are to undertake or cause to be undertaken, various internal audit activities, including but not confined to verification of a sample of members’ accounts balances, attendance at board and other meetings and other control checks.

How to become a member?

To be eligible to join you must hold the common bond of ASTI Credit Union as outlined above. In order to become a full member the applicant (over 16) must pay a membership fee of €1.27 and lodge at least €5.00 into shares.

By law we require 3 pieces of identification to allow us to open an account for you.

Copy of photo ID e.g. Passport / Driver’s Licence
Verification of Address e.g. ESB Bill, Utility Bill, Bank Statement
PPS Number or Tax identification number

You may download an application form and return to ASTI Credit Union together with the above three pieces of identification. Please do not send original passports or drivers licences in the post.
